When you are practicing good dental hygiene, you will surely be in a much better oral health. The problem is that a lot of us neglect the proper taking care of our teeth and gum. This is when most oral diseases start and also the reason why the dental health category is a multi-million, if not a multi-billion, dollar industry.
One motivation that you can look into so you can always keep in mind proper dental oral hygiene is the high cost of many dental procedures. Just getting a dental crown can easily cost you close to a thousand dollars. And assuming that is the only dental or oral procedure that most Melbourne dentists would require to you.
A lot of dental and oral problems can be prevented or avoided simply by following a good dental hygiene regimen.
1. You should brush your teeth regularly.
But do not just brush with any toothpaste. Make sure that it has fluoride as its main ingredient. Most dentists would say that when choosing a toothpaste, all you need to think about is if it has fluoride. All other ingredients are not as important when it comes to protecting your teeth. And of course, brush at least two times a day or preferably after every meal.
2. Learn flossing as a habit.
Floss after every meal, if possible. Flossing is a very important companion to regular brushing because it is the one procedure that really gets to clean between the teeth, removing miniscule food scraps that could have gotten stuck there. Why is it necessary? To prevent the proliferation of bacteria and plaque which in turn can cause halitosis (bad breath) and tooth decay.
3. Always eat healthy food.
Since you were a kid, you have probably been told to stay away from too much sugar (chocolate bars, candies, soft drinks, and others) and to simply eat more of your fruits and vegetables. Healthy foods are rich in vitamins and minerals which help in keeping your teeth and gum in perfect condition.
4. Do not smoke or use tobacco.
Cigarettes and any tobacco products can completely ruin your teeth. You may have heard of smoker’s teeth. It is true and it happens to people who are heavy smokers. They have dark teeth and gums that are far from being the picture of good oral hygiene.
5. And last but not the least, visit your dentist regularly.
How often should you visit your dentists South Yarra? Some say every 6 months, some say quarterly. It does not really matter for as long as you go to the dental office not because you already have a problem but just for regular check ups. Your dentist will be able to diagnose any potential dental problem and then prescribe the necessary treatments to help it from worsening.
All you need is a good dental hygiene if you want the healthiest set of teeth and gum. And it takes dedication on your part for it to happen. Do not let a day go by without at least brushing and flossing your teeth because these are the basis things that you should at least be doing.
