Kicking Coach Dan Zeidman Will Be a Featured Coach at The National Camp Series (NCS) Annual Super Kicking Camp in Orlando, Florida on Feb. 18th and 19th 2012.

San Diego, CA. (PRWEB) February 10, 2012

The National Camp Series (NCS), will feature kicking coach Dan Zeidman at its Super Camp VI’ in Orlando, Florida on February 18th and 19th, 2012.

Zeidman kicked and punted for Grossmont Community College (San Diego, Ca.) and was unanimously voted as the All-Conference kicker his freshman year.

In 2005, He earned a full ride scholarship to play at Idaho State University. In 2008, Coach Z signed a free agent contract for the Carolina Panthers. He spent that summer competing for the punting and kickoff specialist jobs. Since then he has had three workouts with NFL teams (Bengals, Falcons and Seahawks) and has spent 9 weeks with the Colorado Ice of the Indoor Football League. He kicked a record tying 57 yard field goal for Colorado.

The NCS Super Camp is an annual event that brings the top football kicking specialists from around the country who learn from some of the best kicking coaches in the country, says former 9 year NFL kicker Michael Husted who founded the National Camp Series (NCS) and helps college coaches find high school kicking specialist talent.

“The National Camp Series Supercamp is an excellent place to get coached by some of the finest specialist coaches in the nation, says Zeidman. There is no other camp like it!”

“I have never been to camp where there are 15-20 professional kicking, punting and snapping coaches, Zeidman continues, Most of the time, there are a couple of professional coaches and some current college kickers to assist those coaches. The NCS Super Camp is hands down the most well rounded camp in the nation”

Husted adds, With football’s National Signing Day behind, colleges and universities will now look to the NCS and its KIX system to help fill their rosters with kickers, punters and long snappers.

According to Husted, the National Camp Series Network provides over 100 years of NFL/College experience and knowledge.

“The quality of instructors for our Super Camp is outstanding and continues to grow every year, says Husted. This year’s expert coaches feature former NFL Kickers and Punters. NFL punters Louie Aguiar, Craig Hentrich and NFL Kickers Michael Husted, Mike Hollis, will headline a coaching staff that is unparalleled.

According to Husted, kickers who attend the camp will:

*Receive Small Group Instruction from NFL Players

*Have Rankings Posted on the Kicking Index (KIX)

*Get Unparalleled College Exposure

*Learn Pressure Situation Techniques

The annual Super Camp finishes with a head to head tournament for all kickers and punters to display their ability to perform under pressure, says Husted. It is an equal opportunity for all kickers and punters to prove they are among the top by taking home The Champion’s Trophy.

Husted said this year the NCS introduced its All Region Team Tournament, “Student-athletes were selected to the All Region team based on their performances at NCS Regional Camps this past year.”

During Super Camp VI, athletes will compete with their respective team. Similar to the Olympics, while competing individually, they will receive points that will be totaled with the rest of their teammates. At the end of the Super Camp, the All Region Team Champion will be announced.

“We are excited for the All Region Tournament at Super Camp VI,” said Husted. “Besides recognition for their performances at our NCS camps, being on a team will allow them to have a great experience to cap off their previous NCS camp event.”

AthleticScholarships.com Division I Women’s Volleyball Recruiting Guidelines

(PRWEB) February 10, 2012

Leading college athletic scholarship and recruitment information website AthleticScholarships.com has recently released Division I women’s volleyball recruiting guidelines. The guidelines are a top-level view of what college volleyball programs and coaches consider to be the model statistics for high level, 5-star recruits. However, Division I volleyball coaches and recruiters, like Charlie Adams, say they also take into account accolades and academics when scouting for recruits. Students and their families also need to start planning early. “I think what families struggle with the most is they don’t understand you need to start early. It’s like retirement,” Adams explains. “It is a process. Start early, start building relationships with college coaches. Make yourself as appealing as possible.”

It’s essential for high school athletes wishing to compete at the collegiate level to understand that evaluating prospective athletes is not an exact science and competition is very high in Division I women’s volleyball. The volleyball recruiting guidelines serve to help student athletes better prepare themselves for the recruitment process and increase their odds of getting a position on a Division I women’s volleyball team.

The guidelines were created using data from numerous sources, including hundreds of women’s volleyball recruits, college volleyball coaches from around the country and college rosters. The reason for analyzing this data is to identify the model stats for female volleyball players that are chosen to play at the Division I collegiate level.

Crespi Carmelite Celebrates Special Milestones for Catholic Schools Week

Encino, CA. (PRWEB) February 10, 2012

As Catholic School’s Week was celebrated around the nation last week, Crespi Carmelite High School reflected on some special milestones this year. The most important is the Class of 2012 becoming the schools fiftieth graduating class this year. Achieving more than just a graduation milestone, the class of 2012 has already been offered over seven million dollars in college scholarships. As a result of some early college acceptances, this group of seniors is shaping up to be one of the schools all-time best.

Many of the early acceptances for seniors such as Daniel Burns, Francisco Cerda, John Dandridge, Sebastian Edwards, Michael Leoni, Aidan McGarrigle, Alex McFall, Richard Fasani, and Dominic Stella are from some of the top Catholic universities in the nation. These include Boston College, Fordham, Georgetown, Holy Cross College, Loyola Marymount University, Loyal University Chicago, University of Notre Dame, University of San Diego, University of San Francisco, University of Santa Clara, Villanova, and Xavier.

While Edwards committed to Johns Hopkins during National Signing Day Ceremonies at Crespi on Tuesday, January 31, the rest are waiting for the next round of acceptances from the Ivy League and the University of California System. Michael Leoni explained, I knew that my hard work at Crespi over the past four years put me in a promising position, but he admitted that he was uncertain whether he would be accepted by great schools like Boston College and The University of North Carolina. It was a relief and an exhilaration to be accepted early to both schools, Leoni added. Although Leoni is still waiting to hear about decisions from Northwestern, Michigan, Dartmouth, Johns Hopkins, and UCLA, he is definitely going to a good school, as are a lot of my fellow seniors!

As always, one of the reasons for the high achievements of this class is English teacher, Mr. John King. King teaches the seniors and is the chair of the department. He has helped to develop a true love for literature in his students for forty years. “This is an incredible teaching milestone reached by one of our most distinguished teachers,” said Jonathan Schild, Vice-Principal and former student of Mr. King. On Friday, January 27, 2012 the school honored King for his service to the school with a faculty reception and half-time ceremony at the basketball game against Sherman Oaks Notre Dame.

Watch the clip from the half-time ceremony that honored Mr. John King.

King was a student at a Carmelite high school in Houston and then attended the University of Notre Dame. During his time at Crespi, King has been a Carmelite brother, has held the position of Dean of Men, and has coached football and track. John King remains an inspiration to his students and to the staff at Crespi because of his continuing dedication to the school and his care in explicating literature to the young men of Crespi.

On January 13, 2012, the Crespi Carmelite Community proudly congratulated another long-time member of the Crespi Carmelite Community, Mrs. Pat Baker, for her twenty-five plus years of service to the school. The highlight of the night was the surprise appearance by nearly a hundred alumnae cheerleaders and their families for the half-time ceremony during the basketball game against West Hills Chaminade. After the Crespi Cheerleaders were left without a coach in the spring of 1984, Mrs. Baker agreed to temporarily take over the teams until a permanent coach was found. By the end of the school year, she became the coach and stayed for the next ten years.

Watch a video clip from an evening that honored Mrs. Baker.

Baker was able to be with her two daughters and their friends while at Woodland Hills Louisville. After her youngest daughter graduated in 1994, she continued to coach because Crespi had become an important part of my life. Pat has been fortunate enough to coach over three-hundred girls, meet hundreds of amazing families, witness many championship teams, but most importantly have memories to last a lifetime. She is still dedicated to the Crespi Cheerleaders and recently was promoted to the principal of Our Lady of Grace in Encino.

Crespi Football Commits Seven on National Signing Day

Encino, CA. (PRWEB) February 11, 2012

On January 31, 2012 seven Crespi seniors made their intent to play college football official. Headlining this class was Jordan Simmons, rated by Rivals.com as the number one lineman in the nation. There was no doubt that he was sure of his choice as Simmons wore a USC tie and hat to the announcement ceremonies at Crespi Carmelite High School.

Chris Harper will join Simmons in the PAC-12, where he will attend the University of California, Berkeley. Unlike many recruits who changed their minds about Cal after coaching changes, Harper stayed true to his choice. Harper and Simmons commitments left no surprises as their intentions were made clear before Signing Day and their recruitment was heavily publicized by all recruitment sources.

Crespi had two more offensive linemen make commitments as well. Colin Prestesater formerly of Glendora High School signed with Idaho State University. A great all-around athlete, Prestesater just finished the wrestling season with a 22-9 record. Fellow lineman Wes Hewitt may have the most interesting story of the group. Hewitt attended a high school in northern California that discontinued the football program. After a year off from football, he was able to make the most of his opportunity at Crespi and he will attend Western Oregon in the fall.

Linebacker Sebastian Edwards decided not to wait on his Ivy League acceptances and made his commitment to Johns Hopkins. Noah Ciccel and Nathan Walker began their careers on the Crespi reserve freshman football team. The two blossomed as players on the junior varsity team and eventually became starters in the defensive backfield for the varsity. Ciccel committed to Azusa Pacific University and Walker is headed to play at UC Davis. Walker is also a recipient of the 2011-2012 National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete Award. Annually, the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Chapters present this award to students who demonstrate outstanding football performance, team attitude, academic achievements, campus achievements, citizenship, and character. Walker was the choice for the San Fernando Valley High Schools.

This is the largest group of commits for Crespi football since the 2010 class that included impact players Bryan Bennett at Oregon, Hroniss Grasu at Oregon, Ben Loth at Iowa State, Mike Mitchell at Nevada, Pierce Richardson at Iowa State, and Blake Stanton at Oregon. The 2012 class still has more students waiting to sign and the class could finish with a total of twelve players signing for scholarships. Mike Davidson, Sean Lemoto, Nick Metoyer, Jacob Speer, and Terry Williams are still waiting to confirm their commitments.

New Memoir Recalls Escape from Nazis and Eventual Return Home

Annapolis, Md. (PRWEB) February 13, 2012

Prague: My Long Journey Home: A Memoir of Survival, Denial, and Redemption (published by Abbott Press), by Charles Ota Heller, is a riveting memoir about one boys survival of the horrors of World War II, his exhilaration after shooting a Nazi at the age of nine, his escape from communism to America, and his inevitable, emotional return to his home country.

Hellers inspiration to write Prague: My Long Journey Home came after seeing the disdainful lack of knowledge about World War II in todays America. I want to serve as witness, he says, in light of Americans (particularly young Americans) lack of knowledge of the horrors of World War II, due to the aging and disappearance of those of us who experienced it, and because of Holocaust deniers around the world.

Although writing about World War II is not uncommon in either scholarship or fiction Heller provides an angle that few writers can tackle: that of a child living through it. I was one of those children, he says, and a unique one at that: a devout Catholic boy whom the Nazis considered a Jew and slated for extermination.

Although he does not shirk from controversy, holding what some might call unpopular opinions about both the culpability of the German people and the fall of Czechoslovakia to communism, Heller doesnt diminish the other aspects of Prague: My Long Journey Home. The book also tells an American success story about a boy who was ordered to forget everything that happened to him on the other side and to become 100 percent American. Heller earned a basketball scholarship, obtained three degrees in engineering and became a successful American entrepreneur before he came face-to-face with his true identity and ethnicity in post-communist Czech Republic.

Prague: My Long Journey Home has also been recognized by Writers Digest as the inaugural winner of its Mark of Quality recognition award, which recognizes titles deemed to be of exceptionally high literary merit.

Academy of Art University Awards Over $100,000 in Scholarships to California State Summer School for the Arts Alumni

San Francisco, California (PRWEB) February 13, 2012

The Academy of Art University, the largest private school of art and design in the United States, announced today that it has awarded scholarships totaling over $ 100,000 to Miguel Flores, 17, of Mammoth Lakes High School in Mammoth Lakes, CA and Odell Smith, 17, of New Millennium High School High School in Carson, CA. Both students are 2011 alumni of the California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA), the rigorous four-week summer pre-professional training program for Californias most talented high school students in visual and performing arts, creative writing, animation, and film.

Smith, a stand-out CSSSA Music Composition student, will receive a Presidential Scholarship which includes four years of full-time tuition. Flores, who will receive a two course Summer Grant Scholarship, will continue to develop his design, painting and photography skills at the Academy.

CSSSA continues to attract and prepare some of the most talented young artists and designers in California and we are happy to help these future industry stars pursue their dreams of a career in the arts, said Dr. Elisa Stephens, President of Academy of Art University. As a state, we need to prepare students for the jobs of the 21st century so that they can compete for those jobs and also so that businesses will stay in California and thrive for years to come. It is a great honor to partner with CSSSA to support these students and Californias future economic prosperity.

In 2009, the Academy also awarded $ 100,000 in scholarships to CSSSA alumni. Kevin Shaw of Sonoma, who received the four-year Presidential Scholarship in 2009 after graduating from Santa Rosa High School, is currently majoring in animation at the Academy. When Shaw heard about the 2011 scholarship winners, it brought back memories of his time at CSSSA and the impact it had.

“Thanks to CSSSA, I not only discovered that a career in the arts was possible, but I was able to secure a four-year scholarship to help me pursue that career. Now, I am in San Francisco, where I am learning how to use the most cutting edge animation technologies – as well as what it takes to be successful in this industry. I am grateful for the CSSSA-Academy partnership and wish the 2011 scholarship awardees the best in their next chapter.”

Both Miguel and Odessa are incredibly talented and have great potential, said Michael Fields, Director of CSSSA. In todays challenging economic times, financial support can be the difference maker for students who might not otherwise be able to attend college. We deeply appreciate the Academys support and partnership in helping our alumni pursue careers in creative fields.
